In a landmark event at the House of Representatives on Tuesday, November 14th, 2023, the Right Honorable Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., Speaker of the House, unveiled the comprehensive Legislative Agenda of the 10th House of Representatives. The agenda, aptly named ‘The People’s House,’ showcased the commitment of the lawmakers to prioritize the needs and aspirations of the Nigerian people.
In his address covered by TruthLive News, Speaker Tajudeen emphasized the profound responsibility bestowed upon the House since its inauguration on June 13, 2023. The legislative agenda, a product of meticulous planning, aims to leverage every available legislative instrument to address the diverse challenges facing the nation.
The agenda comprises eight critical focal points aligning with the executive’s 8-point agenda, including strengthening governance, economic development, national security, law reform, economic growth, social sector reform, inclusion, foreign policy, climate change, and environmental sustainability.
The Speaker expressed optimism in collaborating with President Bola Tinubu to provide lasting solutions for Nigeria’s development. The agenda prioritizes sustainable economic growth, job creation, poverty alleviation, infrastructure improvement, quality healthcare, and national security.
Acknowledging the collaborative effort that went into crafting the agenda, Speaker Tajudeen thanked the Legislative Agenda Drafting Committee, led by Prof. Julius Ihonvebre, and recognized the support from partners such as the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) and Yiaga Africa. He urged citizens to actively participate in holding the House accountable for the outlined objectives.
To ensure accountability and efficient implementation, the House has established a Legislative Agenda Monitoring and Implementation Committee. Speaker Tajudeen called upon his colleagues to work collectively towards achieving the set benchmarks and invited citizens to engage actively in the legislative process.
The Kaduna Speaker unveiled ‘The People’s House’ Legislative Agenda, marking a significant step towards a better Nigeria, concluding with a prayer for the continued blessing of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He concluded by saying *”The legislative agenda of the 10th House, ‘The People’s House,’ is rooted in the fundamental belief that our primary role as lawmakers is to serve the best interests of our constituents.”*
