US-based Nigerians under the umbrella of the Nigerian American Coalition for Justice and Democracy have received a public gathering permit from the United States department of interior to protest the outcome of 2023 presidential election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the All Progressive Congress candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had as winner of the February 25 poll.

The protest is scheduled to hold on Tuesday April 3, 2023 at the Lafayette Park, opposite the White House between 8 am to 12 pm with an anticipated 100 participants.

Convener of the protest, Mr. Franklin Ekechukwu alleged that INEC did not follow their guideline nor rule of law in accordance with democratic principles during the election.

He said, “We in the diaspora are demonstrating to call the attention of the US government and Biden administration to not recognise the projected winner.”

Meanwhile, there has been call from several quarters for the cancellation of the election following the irregularities that characterised it.

Aggrieved parties including the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party have taken to the court to fight the outcome of the election.
