Nigeria Customs Lagos FTZ Command Generates Over N68b In 2023

The Nigeria Customs Service, Lagos Free Trade Zone Command, has generated over N68 billion revenue, surpassing its 2023 target by 102.82%.

Comptroller Mohammed Babandede, revealed this to newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos.

In addition, the Customs Area Controller, explained that the 2023 revenue target was N34 billion.

Accordingly, the Command however, generated over N68 billion revenue.

For instance, Babandede, said the sum of N68, 960, 988, 264.00 generated, surpassed her target of N34, 000, 000, 000. 00. In the year 2023.

Official X handle of Nigeria Custom shows that the difference represents a collection increase of 102.82% as against N25, 050, 214, 302 generated in 2022.

Although, the Area Controller said the CAC observed that the Command generated the sum of N5,087,161,681 from Lekki Port in April 2023.

“Since my assumption of office, I have ensured stronger collaboration with the sister agencies and relevant stakeholders in the Port and Free Zones,”Babandede explained.

Some sister agencies Include Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority, Nigeria Port Authority, Port Terminal/Operators, Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agent, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, Nigeria Police, Navy and Immigration.

For example “we shared ideas and communicate effectively during meetings and discussed on how to better our operations,” Area Controller said.

He emphasized the importance of working together in the interest of Nigeria, saying the CAC noted that the Lagos Free Trade Zone Command was created to oversee the activities of all Free Zones in Lagos State and Lekki Deepsea Port.

“The Command demonstrated a high level of professionalism in carrying out its mandates in line with international Customs best practices,” he told newsmen.

Meanwhile, the Command targets to achieve N108 Billion in 2024, and Comptroller Babandede expressed optimism in surpassing the target, even in the face of high exchange rates and other challenges affecting importation.
