The Cross River State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists has kicked off its 2022, NUJ Media Week scheduled from Monday November 21, to November 27, 2022, with a city walk and in-house free medical check-up today.
The free Medical check-up held at the NUJ Press Centre, State Housing Estate Calabar, will feature other activities such as indoor games, Visit to Veteran Journalists, Launching of veterans complex plaza and remodeling Press centre, Business investment clinic, Meet the press (a platform for Governorship Candidates) and Gala/Award Night.
With the theme; “2023 General Elections; The Nigerian Project and Media.” The NUJ’s week will be featuring Lecture and Media Summit at Transcorp Hotels Calabar, on Friday November 25, 2022 by 9:00 a.m, where the State Governor Senator Ben Ayade is invited to be the chief host, under the chairmanship of the Governor of Kano State Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Some of the special guests for the event, include the Governor of Bauchi State senator Bala Muhammed, Chairman NDLEA, Brigadier General Muhammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), the former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, Presidential Candidate, Action Alliance Party, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, meanwhile, as the Keynote speaker and Lecturers Dr. Mike Ozekhome and the former INEC Commissioner to Cross River State, Barrister. Mike Igini have been selected to speak on the 2023 general elections and Nigerian Project and the media.
Speaking to Truth Live News in Calabar shortly after he was tested and checked by the medical team, the Chairman Cross River State, Nigerian Union of Journalists, Mr. Gill Nsa said, he was impressed that members of NUJ and people from the neighborhood have come out enmass adding that the program has meet up with the expectation.
Mr. Nsa who told our correspondent that the council is planning to fix health talk on mental issue in-between the next day’s activities, is just 4 months old in the office and decided that Media Week ought to be revamped in the state.
“Media Week has been a regular event although, in the state council it has not been held for the reasons I don’t know, but I felt having stayed this long without Media Week, it is wise that we do one, so that we can catch up with the window of preparation into the 2023 general elections.Hence, the theme of the program.”
He explained that as journalist practitioners, the program is an opportunity to bring together and unite them in term of agenda setting expected of them as journalists.
While expressing optimism that the 2023 general elections will be free and fair, he urged politicians and Government alike not to expose journalists covering elections to violence but ensure an environment of peace and tranquility.
