The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Bayelsa 2023 governorship election, Douye Diri is on early lead to his reelection.
Governor Diri, who is said to be the preferred candidate of former President Goodluck Jonathan is defeating his main opponent, Timipre Sylva of All Progressives Congress APC, during Saturday’s election.
Recall that Dr Jonathan had on Thursday endorsed Douye Diri of PDP as his choice for Bayelsa 2023.
Diri, the current governor of Bayelsa State, was leading with 138, 009 votes, while Chief Timipre Sylva of the APC trailed with 74, 255 votes in six of the state’s eight local government areas reported on Sunday.
Collation of the remaining two local government areas have begun since 12pm today.
