The world record holder blitzed the track in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking an astounding 12.49 seconds. She didn’t just qualify; she led the pack with a performance that left everyone in awe!
Hot on her heels was America’s Alaysha Johnson, crossing the line at 12.61 seconds, and Jamaica’s Janeek Brown, who secured her spot in the semi-finals with a time of 12.84 seconds.
The path to gold is paved with fierce competition. Among those vying for the top spot are the Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton, USA’s Alaysha Johnson, world champion Danielle Williams, and the reigning Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico.
The semi-finals is slated for Friday, August 9, with the final showdown set for the penultimate day of the athletics event, Saturday, August 10.
Amusan has been a force of nature this season, setting a blazing pace with a world-leading time of 12.40 seconds at the Jamaican Athletics Invitational in Kingston this past May. The 27-year-old is no stranger to the big stage. A three-time Diamond League winner, two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist, two-time African champion, and three-time African Games gold medallist, Amusan has proven time and again that she’s a champion.
