Abuja, Nigeria
Atiku Abubakar, the perennial contender for Nigeria’s highest office, seems undeterred by defeat, vowing to chase the presidency until his health fails him.
Drawing inspiration from Abraham Lincoln’s tenacity, he asserts his unwavering commitment in an interview with the Voice of America duly monitored by Truth Live News.
Despite setbacks in 2019 and 2023, the 77-year-old stalwart of Nigerian politics remains resolute, dismissing age as a barrier to his aspirations. Yet, he acknowledges the need for a united front, hinting at potential collaborations with rival factions.
He said “Even the former US President Abraham Lincoln contested seven times before finally winning,” he said.
“However, given the current state of the PDP, it is clear that a single-handed effort will not suffice to win the election. Strong support and collaboration with other parties are required.”
His recent rendezvous with Peter Obi fuels speculation of coalition-building, raising eyebrows about his true intentions. As the specter of coalition looms, Atiku’s determination walks a fine line between admirable persistence and obstinate folly.
As the clamour of a young president grows, strongly buoyed by the emergence of a 44 year old president in Senegal, Will Atiku’s relentless pursuit bear fruit, or is it an exercise in futility? Only time will tell.
