The Governor of Cross River State Sen Bassey Edet Otu has condoled with the former member of the Cross River State house of assembly Rt Hon. Jake Otu Enya, over the death of his wife Christiana Otu Enyia.
Christiana Jake Otu Enyia, died recently after a brief illness at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, aged 49.
Otu who paid the condolence visit to the former lawmaker at his Calabar residence and in company of his Chief of Staff, Emmanuel Ironbar, observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased.
While he expressed shock over the death of late Christiana Otu Enyia, said on Thursday that even though, she died as a young woman, she had left behind an indelible mark, that cannot be forgotten.
The Governor described her as a wife, mother and caregiver, saying that his visit was to condole with the husband whom he described as a colleague.
“I came here on behalf of the Government and People of Cross River State to condole with my colleague who was a former member of Parliament, Rt Hon Jake Otu Enyia over his wife’s death, Christiana,” he said.
“It is very unfortunate that this has occurred, we love her but God loves her more. May the gentle soul of your beautiful wife rest in peace,” he prayed.
The husband of the deceased, Rt. Hon. Jake Otu Enyia, who flanked by a family member, Anne Ugbo, appreciated the Governor for finding time to be with him and the family, despite his busy schedule.
Enyia said his family, village and the entire Boki nation will not forget the gesture, that he is first person as an elective Governor of Cross River State to visit him since the demise of his wife.
“Your Excellency, i appreciate your coming to my house to condole with me and my family, we are very grateful, and the entire Boki nation appreciate this generosity and show of love,” he said.
“I pray to God Almighty to guide and give you all that is required to provide the ‘season of sweetness’ to the good people of Cross River State,” Enyia Prayed.
High point of the visit was the signing of the condolence register by the state governor.
