A devastating incident has shaken the Ibadan community, leaving five worshippers dead and several others hospitalized after a church feast at a local white-garment church.
The “Ipese” feast, held during last Sunday’s service, has raised concerns about its safety.
Truth Live News learnt that approximately 50 worshippers have been discharged from the Infectious Disease Centre (IDC) in Olodo, Oyo State, after receiving medical care. However, others remain under treatment.
A church insider revealed that the cause of the deaths remains unknown, stating, “I ate the prepared beans like every other member, including the victims, and nothing happened to me.” The source emphasized that the incident should not be solely attributed to the “Ipese” feast, adding, “The incident is being investigated thoroughly, and it is not just about the ‘ipese’ as some are suggesting.”
Government agencies, including the police and Directorate of State Services (DSS), as well as the World Health Organization (WHO), have taken notice of the incident and are investigating.
Contrary to rumors, the church premises have not been shut down. The Shepherd-in-Charge is cooperating with authorities and undergoing tests.
A senior medical staff member at IDC Olodo confirmed the ongoing treatment of affected individuals, saying, “As of today, 50 patients have been treated and discharged, while others remain under care. We expect the state commissioner for health to address the press about the incident next week.”
Police Public Relations Officer SP Adewale Osifeso confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are underway.
