The Ekiti State airport was on Saturday (today) by the state Governor, Kayode Fayemi as the first aircraft plane landed successfully.
The first aircraft to land the airport is a NAF 930 aircraft conveying the Minister for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, and his team which landed on the runway at 20 minutes past 10am.
According to the minister who spoke after the landing, the airport is a bridge that will connect Ekiti State to the world and also engender national growth.
It was gathered that commissioning of the airport is one of Fayemi’s last act as Governor before his exit from office for the Governor-Elect, Biodun Oyebanji, to take over the affairs of the state.
The governor noted that the project is standard and was borne out of resilience while expressing confidence that it will positively affect the state in many ways.
The airport is expected to accommodate cargo and passenger services.
