PDP Crisis: Gov Waziri Tambuwal Of Sokoto State As `Maradona` – By Roland Amaize

I do not know how many Nigerians remember and therefore can recall how Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, once gave his political party a devastating uppercut, that led to his emergence as Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 7th or 8th (whichever it was) National Assembly. I guess not a few.

I do not know how many remember and therefore can recall, how Governor Nysome Wike stuck out his neck to back Tambuwal’s bid for the Presidency under the banner of PDP in 2019. I guess not a few.

Although Atiku and not Tambuwal was the person who eventually emerged as their party’s Presidential candidate in that proceeding, Wike however gave his all to Tambuwal in the exercise.

I also guess not a few remember and therefore can seamlessly recall that the same Tambuwal was the ‘game changer in favour of Atiku and conversely against Wike in their last party’s Presidential primaries in the run for the onrushing 2023 Presidential election. Owing to the Maradona-like role, which Tambuwal played by his last-minute withdrawal whilst asking his supporters to vote for Atiku, the latter emerged.

Even the National Chairman of their party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, who was obviously part of the dirty scheme, could not even exhibit self-restraint when he openly described Tambuwal, for his act of treachery against Wike, as the man of the moment or something like that. Many in Ayu’s position would rather have chosen to tow the path of self-restraint but because he was destined to be divinely exposed, he opted for threading overt, rather than a covert, path in expressing his joy at Atiku’s emergence. Naturally and being human, Wike did not find that funny. This is understandably so.

If you ask me, I will not hesitate to state that Ayu conducted himself like those unscrupulous referees who are not truly neutral in matches that the call of duty beckon on them to handle, but they merely pretend otherwise. That Ayu’s mis(conduct) is principally responsible for the gulf in PDP today.

Now, back to Tambuwal as  Maradona. Two or so days ago, with his tail between his legs, he shamelessly went to visit Governor Ortom (one of the G5), to appeal it was time the warring parties sheath their swords. By that visit, it appears to me that he is a man without shame; totally shameless. If anyone is to pay a such visit to Ortom or to any of the other 4, Tambuwal is the least qualified.

To demonstrate the point beyond a mere matter of conjecture, although the G5 have a common grievance, Wike is most aggrieved and this is understandably so. Tambuwal cannot convince anyone that he is not seised of such an obvious fact.

Consequently, why go to Ortom and not Wike? The reason is simple and crystal clear. It is because he cannot look Wike in the face owing to the ignoble role he played against Wike in the proceeding aforementioned. It is the same reason that Iyorchia Ayu cannot look Wike in the face. I like and therefore am thrilled and enamoured by Ortom’s response to the effect he is not alone on the mission. I believe Tambuwal needed not to wait for Ortom to educate him on that obvious.

Backstabbing against a fellow human being, especially by someone presumably trusted, is almost an unforgivable infraction.

I’m not Wike’s follower; far from it. I’ve only expressed myself as an opinion moulder on an issue of national importance.
