Former Atletico Madrid and Brazil captain, Joao Miranda has announced his retirement from football at the age of 38.

The former Brazil center-back revealed his retirement in a video he shared on his Instagram page as he pledges to forever be a football fan.
He said, “The moment has come to say goodbye, If football was a person, after everything I’ve been through, I would say that it’s been emotional, that we went through something inexplicable, but the time has come to be Joao Miranda, I will remain a passionate football fan, but in a different way.”
The 38-year-old Brazilian center-back made 58 appearances for Brazil between 2009 and 2019 netting trice.
Miranda featured in all five games for Brazil in 2018 World Cup in Russia before being sent home by the Belgians in the quarter-finals.
He has won FIFA Confederations Cup, then, Copa America in 2019 for Brazil.

As an Atlético Madrid player, he won league titles in Spain in 2013/14, same year his team also reached the Champions League final.
