CENTUS NWEZE REPORTING

One of the many open, non-insulated power installations littering Nigeria claimed another life belonging to a young man said to be a hair stylist in Nsukka, home of one of Nigeria’s premier varsity, University of Nigeria, UNN.

The deceased, Toochukwu Onah, according to preliminary reports, is believed to have attempted stealing power cables from the installation called power transformers in local English which are in high demand in the thriving black market in the West African country.

Emeka Ezeh, spokesman of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, owners of transformer corroborates this story.

It is however unclear if he made the assertion on the deceased’s motive to stave off liabilities on the death.

Onah, the barber until his death was an indigene of Ede-Oballa, a community in Nsukka, same place the transformer is meant to serve in power distribution.

“The incident is quite unfortunate,” said the EEDC man.

Ezeh recalled the numerous cases of vandalism recorded by the company in 2022, which, according to him negatively impacted on quality of service to its customers.
