Lucky Obukohwo Reporting
Naira scarcity is getting worse by the day in Warri as a particular commercial bank in the Warri Garage area limited dispensed N5,000 cash to customers.
Even at that, more than half of the payments made in the said commercial bank, were in old tartad 50 naira notes at as the time of filing this report.
Some customers outrightly rejected the said naira notes while others accepted them out of desperation.
The same commercial bank like most commercial banks in Warri configured its ATM machines to dispense N20 thousand naira per customer the previous day.
Meanwhile the sale of naira notes flourished in the hands of some shylock POS operators and black marketers who charged as high as N4000 for every 10 thousand naira with impunity.
Those who spoke to our correspondent decried the situation as they called on the authorities concerned to wade into the issue in the interest of the less privileged customers.
Clifford Omamode wondered why the illicit sale of naira and black marketing flourished in the midst of scarcity of naira.
Susan Mamufo spoke in the same vein as she called for apprehension of commercial bank officers that are behind
the naira crisis.
