Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Ladi Adebutu, is reportedly leading protest at the headquarters of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Ogun State.
The protest with hundreds of people singing solidarity songs started at the party’s secretariat, not far from the INEC headquarters.
Earlier in the day, the candidate had accused the ruling party, APC, of applying strange arithmetics in computing the voting figure that gave Dapo Abiodun, the incumbent, his victory.
INEC had declared governor Dapo Abiodun as the winners of Saturday’s election, defeating Adebutu by about 13,000 votes.
The outcome of the election which was characterised by massive violence especially in Ogun East Senatorial District has been rejected by the PDP.
The protest which had members of the state executive council side by aide with the party’s candidate however met brickwall as security operatives mounted a blockage against the protesters.
At a point, some of the operatives started shooting to scare the protesters, but many of them remained resolute.
Adebutu and his team were locked out of the gate for more than an hour before he was later allowed into the premises with two other representatives of the protesters.
He was allowed into the premises after some of the protesters unclad themselves.
The meeting between Adebutu’s team and the officials of INEC, is however ongoing as at the time of filling this report.
