The Kano State Government has said that it has come up with a new law to regulate religious preaching in the state.

The state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Muhammad Garba, disclosed this to newsmen while explaining the key aspects of the law.

He said the decision was reached in a recent State Executive Council meeting, held at the Government House.

“The law would coordinate the mode of preaching, sermons to prevent an attack on the leadership of the opposite sect, and incitement of followers via radio, television, newspaper, or any other conventional platform”,Garba said.

He said the government has also approved the establishment of a Council of Ulama through an enabling law from the Kano State House of Assembly.

The Commissioner said the council will have the responsibility of supervising and regulating all religious sermons in the state.
