Fuel shortages have returned to Ibadan, the capital of Oyo, a southwestern state in Nigeria, with residents resorting to panic purchasing due to the removal of fuel subsidies announced by President Bola Tinubu during his recent inauguration.
Some residents expressed their desire to stock up on fuel before the subsidy removal takes effect.
A car owner, who was waiting in line at a filling station in Ibadan, mentioned that the uncertainty surrounding the situation compelled him to make an effort to fill his car with fuel.
Furthermore, an entrepreneur mentioned the challenges of getting his children to school because of the heavy traffic caused by fuel queues at filling stations.
Similarly, a commercial driver noted that many of his fellow drivers were also waiting in line at the stations to purchase fuel at the current official price before it inevitably increases.
Reports indicate that most filling stations in the city have closed their operations, while the few remaining ones experienced lengthy queues, with some selling fuel at prices ranging from N300 to N350 per litre.
