The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Police Command, CP Mohammed Dankwara has launched a manhunt on the killers of Reverend father Charles Igechi.
Truth Live News reports that Father Igechi, until his gruesome murder,he was under the Benin Archdiocese and he was reportedly shot dead by gunmen in Benin City, Edo state
It was gathered that the priest was shot dead by gunmen on Wednesday along the Agbor road at Bypass area in Ikhueniro axis of Benin, on his was to his place of assignment.
The CP, in a press statement through his Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the Commissioner Of Police, while at the crime scene commiserate with the Catholic community in the state and Nigeria.
SP Nwabuzor said the CP urged them, family members and general public to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses just as he gave a marching order to the Command Tactical teams to go after the perpetrators of this dastardly act and arrest them.
Nwabuzor also said that the CP vows to prosecute the offenders in court and warn criminal elements to vacate the state or be ready to face severe punishments under the law.
He further encourages the good people of the state not to relent in providing the police with prompt and useful information.
According to the CP Dankwara “following a distress call received by the command through its Divisional Headquarters at Okhuaire on 8th of June, 2023 at about 0710hrs, that an unidentified adult male corpse suspected to have been murdered was abandoned in Ikhueniro Community along the Benin-Agbor road, Benin-City, the police operatives immediately stormed the scene.
“On arrival, sympathizers informed the operatives that some unidentified persons who appeared to be relatives of the deceased had evacuated the corpse to the morgue for preservation and autopsy, meanwhile preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was a Revered Father and the Vice Principal of St. Michael College, Ikhueniro Community in Ikpoba – Okha Local Government Area of Edo State”,
