Obaseki To Gift 24 Lawmakers N60m Worth Of Car

The 24 Edo State House of Assembly members-elect are in for a mouth watering package as the state government has made plans to gift each of the lawmakers N60 million worth of car.

Truth Live News gathered that the Chief Judge of the state will also benefit from the state government magnanimity.

The purchase of the vehicles for the lawmakers and the Chief Judge was sequel to the approval of N3.5billion loan to the state governor, Godwin Obaseki by the outgone 7th Assembly at its
valedictory session last Thursday, June 8, 2023.

At the session, the immediate past speaker, Hon. Marcus Onobun and his 10-member house approved the sum of N3.5billion loan contract facility requested by the governor.

The speaker disclosed that out of the total amount, N1.5 billion was for procurement of vehicles for the incoming 24 members of the eight Assembly and for the Chief Judge of Edo State.

He also added that the balance of N2 billion was to fund critical infrastructure at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital.

Truth Live News also learnt that the outgone assembly was to go away with their Pajero Jeep as part of severance benefit in addition to other undisclosed mouth watering benefits while the speaker would go with his either Lexus 470 or Lexus 570 Jeep.

Two out of the members were reelected while the speaker, Hon Marcus Onobun has since resumed at the National Assembly representing Esan Central/ Esan West/ Igueben Federal Constituency.

Still at its last plenary session, the outgoing members at the Committee of a Whole also considered and passed a bill to amend a law to make provisions for the emolument of elected political officers and Public Officers 2007.

Also passed was a bill for a law to amend the Pension Rights of the Governor and Deputy Governor Law, 2007, which was amended.

Unlike the previous legislators the contents of the amended two critical bills were not made public.

Truth Live News reports that the re-elected members of the outgone assembly are Hon Yekini Idiaye (Akoko-Edo I) and Ojiezele Osezua Sunday ( Esan South East).

Among the 14-members-elect that were not inaugurated during the 7th Assembly, but reelected for the 8th Assembly are Eric Okaka (APC), Owan East, Kingsley Ugabi ( APC), Etsako East and Oshiomah Ahmed Waziri (,APC), Etsako central constituencies respectively.
