Sad! University Lecturer Drowns in Abuja Flood

Philip Azubuike, a university lecturer, has tragically passed away after being swept away by a flood that occurred at Trademore Estate in the Lugbe area of Abuja on Friday, June 23.

Azubuike, who worked as a lecturer in the Physics Department at Modibbo Adama University of Technology in Yola, Adamawa State, lost his life during the incident. He was swept away while inside his Peugeot 406 car, bearing registration number YLA 681 FS.

Subsequently, his body was recovered from the canal near the estate’s entrance. Alhaji Ashiru, a newly assigned police inspector in the area, shared how he and other local residents assisted in retrieving the corpse from the canal.

According to several witnesses, the victim was seen struggling to escape from his vehicle as the floodwaters rose. A motorcyclist recounted, “We observed him on the roof of his car, attempting to avoid the flood, but unfortunately, he disappeared from sight.” This statement was provided after the recovery of the body.

Following the tragic incident, friends, colleagues, and former students have expressed their grief on Facebook, remembering Philip Azubuike as the best physics lecturer they ever had.
