Delta Assembly Approves Gov Oborevwori’s Request To Appoint 20 Special Advisers

The Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday approved the request of Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori to appoint 20 Special Advisers (SAs) to assist in driving the administration development of the state.

The approval of the request followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Mr Emeka Nwaobi, during plenary of the Assembly.

Oborevwori, had in a letter, read during the plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Mr Dennis Guwor, requested for the approval for the appointment of SAs.

According to him, the request was in line with section 196, sub section 1 to 3 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended

He explained that the Special Advisers would assist in driving the administration’s development agenda, adding that he would appreciate it if the House considers his request.

The Assembly also reviewed and approved list of candidates for appointment to the Delta State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.

The nominees are Prof. Louis Ojogwu, Mr. Alexander Neyin, Dr. Iris Ibi, Mr. Festus Onyaeju, Mr. Augustine Eseagwu, and Mrs. Uju Rosaline Monye. Justice Celestina Ogisi (Rtd) is serving as the council’s chairman.

The nomination, according to Oborevwori, came after the Advisory Council needed to be reconstituted because the terms of its members had come to an end.

He clarified that the appointment was made in the course of the exercise of the authority granted to him under Section 3, Subsections 1 and 2, of the 2016 Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy Law.
