A former member of the House of Representatives who represented Ovia Federal Constituency of Edo State, Hon Omosede Igbinedion, has decried the incessant accidents happening at the Ovia River, saying it was due to the failed portions of the road.

The ex-lawmaker, while commiserating with the accident victims and bereaved families, said the accidents could have been averted if the bad spot on the road was fixed.

She further called on relevant authorities to urgently fix the road to avoid future occurrences.

“The lives of every Edolite matters and same for the lives of every Nigerian and other people using that road.

“There is a need for all stakeholders to do the needful for the betterment of our people.

“I am using this medium to call on all relevant authorities to give urgent attention to all failing roads and other infrastructure by relevant authorities to make life comfortable for the citizenry.

“I pray for the souls of the departed to rest in peace and wish the surviving victims of the accident speedy recovery”, Igbinedion said.

Truth Live News reports that on Thursday last week, 11 persons who were returning from a church programme in Lagos and were heading towards the South-South region of the state, lost their lives at the Ovia bridge along the Benin-Lagos express way while eight others have been hospitalized.

While Nigerians are still mourning the deaths of the 11 persons who have died by the Ovia River bridge, on Monday this week, A Nissan pick-up truck has been said to have been plunged into the same river. The whereabouts of the occupants are still unknown.
