The member representing Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives Hon Joseph Bassey, has sponsored bills to establish the Federal College of Health Technology Bakassi and a bill to establish Federal University of Agriculture Akpabuyo.
The bills which have passed first reading on the floor of the House of Representatives seek to improve on the economic and health status of the two LGAs in the Cross River Southern Senatorial District.
Hon Bassey, said the University when establish in Akpabuyo LGA will serve as research base for the institution, while the Federal College of Health Technology will also restore hope and create a federal presence in Bakassi.
He said after several years of neglect and non proper resettlement of the Bakassi people, it was pertinent that health college be established in Bakassi to reduce insecurity in the area and youth restiveness.
News Agency of Nigeria reported that the lawmaker said that if properly harnessed, Akpabuyo can become a food economy and production hub that will serve the markets in the state and also for external consumption.
