The Court of Appeal declared as false a viral report that Justice Boloukuoromo Ugo, a member of the Presidential Election Petition Court has resigned.

Truth Live News recalls that Nigerians woke up to the news of his resignation in the early hours of Thursday.

Justice Ugo was said to have resigned from the Bench, citing demands “to kneecap democracy,” by ruling in favour a particular polical party.

According to the viral reports, although he did not mention the name of the candidate, Ugo said, siding him would mean the death of Nigeria’s Democracy.

He was quoted as saying he could not in good conscience remain silent after being asked to cripple the independence of the judiciary.’

He noted that he was asked to suppress evidence and dismiss cases that could have an impact on the election.

However, reacting to the reports, Chief Registrar of the Court, Umar Bangari dismissed the news, describing it as false and misleading.

Bangari while speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Thursday urged Nigerians to disregard the ‘fake news’.
