Simisola Kosoko, well known by her stage name Simi, a phenomenal singer from Nigeria, has spoken out about her choice to give up gospel music.
Simi discussed her decision to transition to secular music during her participation on the interview segment of MTV Base Africa’s program, Official Naija Top 10. Simi said she left the gospel music industry because of the difficulties she had there.
Simi revealed that the normal performance price she received while working as a gospel musician was between N5,000 and N10,000, with the largest sum she has ever received being N70,000.
She eventually had to give up gospel singing, though, as the income wasn’t enough to pay for studio time and promotions.
She said;
“I actually used to go to a lot of churches to perform. They will pay me like N5k, N10k. Do you know the highest amount of money I actually collected when I was doing gospel [music]? N70,000. And I felt like I had arrived. I still paid a 10 per cent tithe from the money.”
