In a significant move to combat criminal activities, the Nigerian troops from the 63 Bde Garrison, under the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Department of State Services, have successfully dismantled an enclave belonging to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Asaba, Delta State.
Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, disclosed this development in a statement obtained by Truth Live News, saying the decisive operation took place on Saturday, July 22, 2023.
During the early hours of the day, the brave troops executed a well-coordinated raid on the heavily fortified hideout, strategically positioned in a forested high ground. The ensuing exchange of fire saw the gallant soldiers overpowering the IPOB fighters, forcing them to flee the scene in disarray.
As a result of the operation, one of the fleeing fighters was apprehended by the troops.
Also, the security forces successfully seized a substantial cache of weapons, including five AK-47 rifles, three pump-action semi-automatic rifles, one G3 rifle, and one single-barrel gun.
In addition to firearms, various other items, such as live cartridges, an electric saw, machetes, an axe, and an IPOB flag, were also recovered from the enclave.
The troops, undeterred by their victory, are continuing their pursuit of the escaping militants, effectively exploiting the forest terrain in an effort to bring them to justice.
Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, expressed his commendation to the troops and other security agencies involved in the ongoing operations. He urged them to maintain their dedication and resolve to restore peace and stability to the region.
