Sen Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State has appealed to the state’s judiciary for mutual cooperation with other arms of government.
Otu made the appeal when he received the state chief judge, Justice Akon Ikpeme, with other members of the inner bench on a courtesy visit on him.
In a welcome address Otu, said the visit was necessary to foster new relationship and continuous synergy among the various arms of government.
He charged them to exhibit fairness in the dispensation of justice and promised to tackle the issues of office acomodation.
“Moving forward, I want to appeal that we should all work together to see how we can give Cross River state a chance to grow,” he said his administration is grappling with too many issues of which he said he believes that if they work together, they will deliver the state.
“We want to make sure that we return back to the old judiciary that we used to know and this we cannot achieve without you also giving us the support,” he continued.
“We are working to make sure that our people benefit, not just from dividends of democracy, but that of our responsibilities as leaders,” the governor said.
According to him, “No society can function without justice. You are the last hope and passion of the common man, and I am happy that in Cross River state, to some extent, we have been able to abide with the dictates of our constitution,” Otu said.
Otu, who had earlier directed that official cars of senior judges that have lasted for a couple of years be immediately replaced, assured that before the end of the week, the directive will be fully implemented.
On her part, the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Akon Ikpeme, congratulated the Governor on his well deserved victory at the polls and subsequent assumption of office.
