The Council of 36 States Students’ Presidents in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, led by Comr. Ajir Victor, had a meeting with Hon. Terseer Ugbor, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Students Loans and Access to Higher Education.

The purpose of the visit was to show solidarity and reiterate their commitment to advocating for the welfare of Nigerian students. They also sought a productive working relationship between the students’ community and the Ad-hoc Committee to ensure the successful implementation of student loans in Nigeria.

The introduction of the students loan act in 2023 has brought several benefits to Nigerian students, including increased access to education, enhanced career prospects, and greater financial flexibility.

However, the Council expressed concerns about the challenging conditions to obtain the students’ loan and urged the federal government to review the process to make it more student-friendly and accessible.
In response, Hon. Ugbor addressed the leaders of the students’ union and empathized with the difficulties faced by Nigerian students nationwide.

He assured them of his dedication to developing policies and programs that would address their challenges. He also promised to ensure the Council’s full involvement in the decision-making process for the betterment of Nigerian students.

Furthermore, Hon. Ugbor encouraged the Council to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, highlighting the government’s proactive approach to implementing policies that will improve the lives of students and young people in the country.
