The president of the senate, Godswill Akpabio, has revealed that the National Assembly Clerk has disbursed funds to all senators to enable them enjoy their holiday.
“As soon as Senator Umahi takes his oath of office, we shall rearrange the office of the leadership. To enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the clerk of the national assembly,” he said.
The Senate president revealed this in a trending video posted on Wednesday morning and seen by Truthlive news.
There are speculations that the Senate President may have been unaware that the proceedings were being aired on live television by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) when he inadvertently made the statement.
In the trending video, he withdrew his remark after discovering he was live.
“I withdraw that statement. To allow you to enjoy your holiday, the Senate President has sent prayers to your mailboxes to assist you to go on a safe journey and return,” he said.
The news of the purported enjoyment allowance to senators amid the economic crunch occasioned by fuel subsidy removal has spark so many reactions on social media.
Recall that On 29 May, President Bola Tinubu, during his inauguration, announced the removal of subsidy on petrol. This development has caused hardship for many Nigerians with its attendant increase in the prices of goods and services.
