Toba Owojaiye Reporting
Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, was conspicuously missing from his eldest son’s wedding. The wedding ceremony joined Bello El-Rufai and Aisha Habibu Shuaibu in matrimony at a private event which occurred in Abuja on Saturday.
Reports indicated that Bello’s decision to enter into a second marriage followed his divorce from his first wife, Kamilah, whom he had initially married in April 2015, may be the reason for his father’s absence.
Although, the senior El-Rufai absence is connected to his departure from the country, which came after he turned down a ministerial position in President Bola Tinubu’s government.
The Senate’s failure to confirm his nomination due to security concerns prompted this decision. Prior to leaving the country, the former governor met with President Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja. After the meeting, he embarked on a journey to Europe, with a planned stopover in Egypt.
Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kaduna North federal constituency, exchanged wedding vows with Aisha Habibu Shuaibu.
She is the daughter of Col. Habibu Shuaibu (rtd), a former Military Administrator of Plateau and Niger States.
In accordance with Hausa tradition, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, who Bello had previously worked for as a legislative aide during the governor’s time as a Senator, represented the groom’s father in the ceremony.
Governor Uba Sani shared his happiness about assuming the role of the father of the day at the wedding. He took to his verified social media account, X (formerly known as Twitter), to post photographs from the event. In his post, he extended his congratulations to the newlywed couple, Bello and Aisha, and conveyed his well-wishes for a joyful and blessed marriage.
