NYSC Reopens Camp in Borno After 13-Year Closure

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has taken the step to reopen its camp in Borno State, more than a decade after its closure due to security concerns.

The Borno State Commissioner of Police, ML Yusuf, recently conducted an inspection of the orientation camp, ahead of the scheduled deployment of corps members on August 18, 2023.

During his visit to the newly established orientation camp situated at Arabic Teachers College, Maiduguri, the Commissioner of Police expressed the purpose of assessing the prevailing security conditions.

to bHe emphasized that this assessment was essential for determining the deployment strategy aimed at ensuring a peaceful commencement of the orientation, which is set to begin on August 18, 2023.

The Commissioner of Police underlined that the revival of the NYSC orientation program in Maiduguri marks a significant milestone in reestablishing peace in the state after a hiatus of thirteen years. Accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon Tijjani Bukar, and the NYSC state coordinator, Mr Mohammed Jiya Adamu, the Commissioner engaged in discussions aimed at guaranteeing a smooth and trouble-free camping experience.

Assuring the officials, the Commissioner of Police confirmed the strategic and ample deployment of police personnel at entry and exit points, as well as other crucial areas within the camp. It’s worth noting that during the period of the camp’s closure, corps members destined for Borno were accommodated in Katsina.
