The Nigerian Armed Forces on Friday laid to rest the remains of the 22 military personnel who died in the recent crash of the Nigerian Air Force MI-171E Helicopter in Niger.
The burial ceremony was held at the National Military Cemetery Abuja, in accordance with military traditions.
The ceremony was a way to recognize and pay respect to the bravery and sacrifice of these soldiers, who died while serving their country.
Truthlive news recalls that the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on August 14, announced the death of at least 36 officers who were killed in battle.
The officers’ helicopter was shot down by some insurgents in the Zungeru area of Niger State.
The troops were deployed to Kundu village in Wushishi Local Government Area after bandits terrorized the area recently.
Some of the deceased officers had already been buried by their various families, remaining the 22 being interred on Friday.
The funeral ceremony was attended by the Minister of Defence, Muhammed Badaru; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, service chiefs.
Family members and others who knew the fallen soldiers were also present to pay their respects.
The event involved laying of wreath by the two ministers, and presentation of National Flag to next-of-kin of the deceased personnel by the CDS and service chiefs.
