Uncompleted Hotel Building Collapses In Delta, Leaves Eight Critically Injured

A 20-storey hotel building that was under construction in Asaba, Delta State, collapsed on Thursday evening, leaving eight individuals seriously injured.

This incident occurred near the well-known Delta Mall, which houses Shoprite, and is owned by Chief Gabriel Ogbechie, a prominent billionaire businessman and the founder of Rain Oil Group.

According to an eyewitness named Onyinye Okei, the collapse was abrupt and accompanied by a loud noise while construction workers were actively engaged in their tasks.

“Approximately eight people sustained injuries and were swiftly taken to the hospital by their colleagues,” he said.

Speaking to newsmen at the scene, the State Commissioner for Urban Renewal, Mr. Michael Anoka, who visited the for inspection, attributed the incident to a structural flaw in the building.

He clarified that there were no fatalities, stating, “The Ministry is still investigating. The government is already taking measures, and as you can see, the compound has been sealed. After our investigation, we will provide a comprehensive report on today’s events. Everyone should remain calm; the government has already initiated measures before this incident today. We are working on establishing a process to prevent such situations in the future.”

The scene of the incident has been cordoned off by officials from the State Emergency Management Agency and security personnel.
