Members of the Anambra Vigilante Group have rescued three pregnant girls from a baby factory and child trafficking syndicate located in Umunze, within the Orumba South Local Government Area of the state.
The rescued victims include; Thabita Okoli (14) from Arondizuogu, Imo State; ThankGod Blessing (20) from Bayelsa State; and Chineye Mathew (19) from Ihite, Orumba South Local Government Area.
These operations were conducted under the leadership of the LGA Chairman, Prince Neville Uchendu, following an extensive three-month investigation carried out by the AVG.
Prince Neville, when transferring the custody of both the factory operator and the rescued girls to the state Ministry of Women and Social Welfare in Awka, mentioned that his team had managed to uncover the syndicate after conducting a thorough three-month investigation on the detained suspects.
He further stated that he brought the suspect and the girls to the commissioner with the knowledge that prompt action would be taken.
Upon receiving the suspect and the girls before handing them over to the police, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, expressed her satisfaction regarding the outcomes of the months-long investigation conducted by the security operatives.
She said that the state government is content with this development and encouraged other LGAs within the state to follow the example set by the Chairman of Orumba South in their efforts to make Anambra a safe and prosperous homeland.
Obinabo emphasized that the apprehended syndicate would not escape legal consequences and would be brought to court for their actions.
Also speaking to newsmen, the suspect, identified as Oruchukwu Okoroafor, admitted to being involved in this illicit business for two years and acknowledged that the girls found at his location were his first set of clients for the year.
He also confessed that potential buyers had already pledged to pay N300,000 for each unborn child, although he claimed that he doesn’t have their contact information.
