Climate Change Reportage: Foundation Trains Journalists In Calabar

In collaboration with the Nigerian Union of Journalists NUJ, the Godshield Kanjal Journalism Foundation GKJF, has carried out training for senior Journalists In Cross River State.

The training anchored on the Importance of data and self branding In climate change storytelling was held at the Cross River Council of the NUJ Secretariat in Calabar.

The foundation having noted the underreported climate issues in Cross River, south-south Nigeria, called on Journalists not to overlook the effects of the development especially as it affects lives of women and children in the society.

Mr. Godshield Kanjal, Founder of the GKJF, who is also a Journalist expressed dissatisfaction with the number of Journalists involved in climate change reportage in Cross River State.

He said they can always take advantage of the training couple with their wealth of experience and expertise in journalism to make sure the world finds solutions to climate change and other natural disasters bedeviling the society.

According to him, “there are several different platforms calling for such story and are ready to sponsor the cost,” Kanjal said his Foundation would avail opportunity to interested Journalists in the state.

Truth Live News reports that while calling for climate change story pitch, he also used the occasion to emphasize on self branding and data Inclusion.

On his part, the facilitator solution Journalist and Deputy Editor at Prime Progress Abuja, Mr. Monday Ogar said it was high time for journalists to add, express, and base their works on data reportage.

According to him, “Always use or add data when doing your reports. Data connects your story to the global audience and gives it a human face.”

Expressing their satisfaction after the training, the participants, Including the Cross River NUJ Secretary, Solomon Azu, and Miss Tina Todo among others said the training was an eye opener as they have come to know in a better way to report climate change issues and lauded the organizer for the training opportunity given them and pledged not to take it for granted.
