Kebbi Boat Tragedy: Gov Doles N2m To Deceased Families

The Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu has doled out the sum of N2 million to the four families who lost their loved ones in a boat accident on Saturday in Suru Local Government Area of the state.

The terrible incident, was said, happened when the victims were returning home from their daily work.

Idris, who commiserated with the immediate members of the deceased families, district head of Suru and the Local Government Council, said the N2 million cash, should be shared N500,000 each to the four families.

While condoling the people at the District Head office at Suru town, the governor urged them to accept what happened in good fate and prayed God Almighty to grant the deceased Jannatul Firdaus.

The governor, represented by a committee of three Commissioners and other top government officials under the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Zayyanu Aliero urged them to ensure judicious distribution of the donation.

The two other Commissioners were; Hon. Muhammadu Hamidu-Jarkuka, Humanitarian Affairs and Empowerment as well as Hon. Usman Abubakar Ladan, Commerce and Industries.

Idris explained that the new administration under Kauran Gwandu was very keen on anything that affect Kebbi people whether happiness or otherwise, saying: “that’s why government made it a tradition to visit any community in the event of joy or sorrow.”

In his speech, Hon. Muhammad Hamidu-Jarkuka, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Empowerment said: “We are here on behalf of Kebbi State Government to sympathized with you and tender our heart felt condolences, may Allah forgive the deceased shortcomings and grant them Jannatul Firdaus.

“This is a testimony that Kauran Gwandu is with his people and has the interest of his people at heart and that’s why he is always showing concern in the event of either happiness or sadness.”

The Council Chairman, Suru Local Government Area, Hon. Muhammad Lawal-Suru appreciated the entourage for the condolence visit as well as what he described as prompt response.

He particularly thanked the entourage for showing deep concern right from the beginning of the ugly trend up to the time of their condolence visit, adding: “we have been communicating with you through phone updating you on the situation, this is highly commendable.”

Responding, the District Head of Suru, Alhaji Muhammad Bello confirmed that the governor was very conscious of his people and assured the readiness of his subjects to give the new administration total support.

He assured that the money would be wisely shared to each of the affected families to cushion the effects of the loss.
