In connection with an alleged N1.7 million scam, police arraigned 25-year-old student Bamidele Dada at the Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State on Friday.
The accused was charged with three felonies, namely breach of peace and advance fee fraud, at the time of their arraignment.
The offender and one other person at large committed the offenses on November 19, 2022, in Okitipupa, according to the prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, who testified in court.
He added that under the false pretense of assisting his son in obtaining an admission form to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), the defendant deceitfully acquired N1.72 million from the complainant, Femi Mewafenu.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant did not get the admittance document and declined to return the money.
The prosecution claimed that the offenses were against Sections 516, 249, and 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
Nonetheless, the defendant entered a not guilty plea.
Mr. Cletus Ojuola, the Chief Magistrate, granted N200,000 in bail to the offender along with an equivalent amount to two sureties.
In addition, Ojuola stated that the sureties had to be residents of the court’s jurisdiction and provide documentation of their two years of Ondo state government tax payments.
For a second hearing, he postponed the case until October 25.
