A Correctional Service officer has been reported dead during gunmen attack on Afokang Correctional facility in Calabar, Cross River State, South South Nigeria.
The incident which took place on Wednesday night was confirmed by the spokesman of the State Command of the Correctional Service, Mr. Effanga Etim.
“When they came,” Etim said. “They opened fire on the security team who also responded in like manner and in the process.”
Etim, on Thursday while speaking to newsmen said, “No inmate escaped or was killed.”
According to him, the attackers didn’t get close to the main facility, only an Assistant Superintendent of the Correctional centre, ASC, was killed.
Truth Live News learned that a mother and her six-years-old daughter were hit by stray bullets during the attack.
Etim, was quoted as saying “As we speak, we have deployed more armed personnel to the facility and everything is under control.”
