In a recent political development in Kogi State, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has accused the All Progressive Congress (APC) of orchestrating an attack on the convoy of their gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka. This incident occurred as Ajaka’s convoy was traveling along the Akpachala – Idah road.

Colonel Sulaiman Babanawa (retired), the Director General of the Kogi State SDP Governorship Campaign Council, asserted that the APC had sent thugs to carry out this assault. At a press conference held in Lokoja, Babanawa called on the Inspector General of Police to investigate the role of CSP Femi Ojo, the Head of the Police Quick Response Unit (QRU), accusing him of aiding political thugs in Kogi State.

Babanawa revealed that a police officer, ASP Adamu Sani, under the command of CSP Femi Ojo, was involved in the attack and had admitted to acting under his instructions. The SDP is urging the Inspector General of Police to examine the activities of the Quick Response team under Femi Ojo’s leadership.

The SDP representatives expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation and claimed that the APC was resorting to undemocratic actions to intimidate their supporters, citing this as a sign of the APC’s concern over the SDP’s growing popularity in Kogi State.

Furthermore, the Deputy Governorship candidate of the SDP, Chief Sam Ranti Abenemi, vowed to continue voicing their concerns and called on security agencies and prominent figures, including President Bola Tinubu, to address the persistent attacks orchestrated by the ruling party in the state. This incident highlights the escalating political tensions in Kogi State as the election approaches.
