Nigeria is the first National Federation from Africa to join World Boxing, and as a result, there are now 22 members of the new international federation competing in Olympic-style boxing across all five continents.

The six new members will be entitled to participate in World Boxing’s first Congress, which will be held in Frankfurt Am Main on November 24–25, 2023. This Congress will include at least the same number of participants as the AIBA (now known as IBA) inaugural Congress, which took place in London in 1946.

In order to join World Boxing, the six new members underwent a rigorous application process. They are considered to be in good standing and are able to show the following through their statutes and internal procedures:

• A transparent and open election process for the appointment of office bearing roles

• The existence and operation of WADA-recognized anti-doping policies and processes

• Evidence of a structured, dispute resolution and appeals process that is either fully independent or subject to external input

• Formal recognition by either their National Olympic Committee (NOC) or Ministry for Sport

• A solid national and international boxing sports program

The World Boxing Executive Board has approved the applications, and the inaugural Congress in Frankfurt will ratify them.

The Congress will be open to all members of World Boxing, and they will have the chance to nominate candidates for the positions of President, Vice President (VP), and members of the Executive Board of World Boxing, as well as the Chairs of the Sport and Competition Committee, the Medical and Anti-Doping Committee, and the Finance and Audit Committee.

At the Congress, every full member will be able to cast a vote.
