The Nigeria Minister of Sports Development Sen John Owan Enoh, has hailed one Mr Yemi Idowu, for the renovation of the Maracana Sporting complex in Ajegunle, Lagos State.
The Maracana Sporting Complex has 19 training pitches and a standard football pitch.
The minister of sports commended Idowu, when he visited the facility that has birthed very big football stars.
Nevertheless, once a sandy beach, in Ajegunle, harboured miscreants who indulged in negative vices but has now been transformed to a ground where sports talents are honed.
Through his official Facebook page, Enoh said: “Simply amazing.” I salute Yemi Idowu for the renovation of the Maracana Sporting complex, it is the way forward for Nigeria’s sports.
“For me, it is not only a showpiece but a showcase of how our sports should go as a nation.”
Enoh said “It was Oniru of Iru, HRH Abdulwasiu ND I Omogbolahan Lawal, who first mentioned this complex to me before the Director General Budget of the federation, Ben Akabueze also mentioned it.
“And I am visiting the place myself, I more than understand why they kept talking to me about the complex.”
Minister Eno also added, “We must develop sports from the grassroots. It gladdens my heart to see children channel their energy positively through sports.”
