Edo Queens will once again face off against Remo Stars Ladies in the opening semi-final match of the third edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT). This eagerly anticipated game is set to take place on Monday at the Western Boys Mini Stadia in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State, with a 4pm kick-off time.
During the group stage, Edo Queens FC secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Remo Stars Ladies from Ogun State, with the decisive goal coming from a penalty kick in the 90th minute of the game.
In the quarter-finals, Remo Stars Ladies, newly introduced to the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), defeated the defending champions of the BOWFT, FC Robo Queens, with a score of 3-1, earning themselves a spot in the semi-finals.
The second semi-final game will see Bayelsa Queens FC and Delta Queens FC go head to head at the UNIBEN Sports Complex in Benin City, also commencing at 4pm.
The winners of these semi-final matches will advance to the tournament’s finals, set to take place on Wednesday, November 1st, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. Notably, more than twenty-three wives of governors and former governors will be in attendance at the finals, which will coincide with the competition’s closing ceremony.
This promises to be a thrilling encounter, with great synergy, nostalgia and a stronger home connection for those coming from outside the state and diaspora.
