At its 84th Legislative Sitting on Monday, October 30, 2023, the Rivers State House of Assembly took several significant actions. They served Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara with a Notice of Impeachment, removed House Leader Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, and suspended four honorable Members indefinitely.
The suspended members include Hon. Sokari Goodboy Sokari, who represents Ahoada West; Hon. Adolphus Oruibienimigha, representing Opobo/Nkoro; Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo, representing Bonny; and Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, representing Ahoada East constituency II.
These actions were initiated based on allegations of gross misconduct in the performance of the Governor’s duties, in accordance with Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Speaker, Rt Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, also condemned the recent arson attack on the Assembly and emphasized the House’s commitment to upholding constitutional provisions.
