ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Court of Appeal in Abuja has set November 6, 2023, as the date for a hearing of the case filed by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who is challenging the annulment of his election by the Kano State Election Petition Tribunal.
The case, no CA/KN/EP/GOV/KAN/34/2023, will involve parties including Governor Yusuf, his party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
On September 20, 2023, the tribunal invalidated Yusuf’s election by disqualifying 165,663 of his votes, citing issues with their signatures and stamps by INEC.
Despite initially winning with 1,019,602 votes, this deduction left him with 853,939 votes, and the APC candidate was declared the winner.
Governor Yusuf and the NNPP have subsequently appealed the tribunal’s decision, seeking a reversal in their favor.
