The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially requested the cancelation of elections in Kogi Central Senatorial District. David Edibo, the state agent of the party, conveyed this demand during the submission of the party’s petition to the Returning Officer of the election at the collation center in Lokoja on Sunday.
Edibo asserted that the SDP does not accept the outcome of the election across the five local government areas within the senatorial district. He claimed that the election results were manipulated and marred by irregularities, emphasizing the party’s stance against allowing such results to be validated.
Notably, the SDP had previously communicated their concerns to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on this matter. Edibo questioned the acceptance of the results by INEC officials despite the party’s prior correspondence.
In response, Prof Johnson Urama, the Returning Officer for the election, assured that INEC is actively addressing the concerns raised in the petition. He indicated that the next course of action will be disclosed as the electoral body takes appropriate steps.
It is noteworthy that Kogi Central Senatorial District holds significance as the stronghold of Usman Ododo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
