Owerri, Imo
Labour Party supporters rallied at the INEC office in Owerri, Imo State, on Monday, protesting the alleged denial of access to crucial election materials from the November 11 governorship poll. Senator Athan Achonu, the LP candidate, accused INEC of refusing certified true copies, leading to the demonstration.
TruthLive News gathered that the LP State Chairman, Callistus Ihejiagwa, voiced frustration, stating that despite a nine-day-old request, their legal team was consistently denied access to necessary documents. Ihejiagwa, addressing the media from a wheelchair, recounted an incident where he was allegedly mistreated during the election results collation.
He questioned the delay in releasing certified true copies, emphasizing INEC’s swift announcement of results within 12 hours of the election. Ihejiagwa highlighted the emotional toll on his family, stating his wife and children were still traumatized by witnessing his mistreatment on live television.
In response, Ben-Opara Emmanuella, Head of Voter Education at INEC in Imo State, assured protesters that the LP’s application was received and being processed. She acknowledged the party’s right to request certified true copies, explaining that materials were being assembled, and payment details would be communicated the following day.
