In the aftermath of the resignations of the previous speaker and deputy speaker, the Plateau State House of Assembly has chosen new leaders to guide the legislative body forward.
On Tuesday, November 21, 2023, Honourable Gabriel Dawang, representing Pankshin North, was elected as the new speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly.
Simultaneously, Honourable Timothy Dantong, representing Riyom constituency, garnered the support of his colleagues and assumed the role of deputy speaker at the assembly.
Truth Live News reports that he former speaker of the House of the Assembly, Honourable Moses Thomas Sule, tendered his resignation. In a parallel move, the deputy speaker, Honourable Gwottaon Fom, also stepped down from his position.
To many, this development may be linked to the court’s decision to oust Governor Caleb Mutfwang and some PDP lawmakers in the state assembly.
