Haaland celebrating goal vs Brighton

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has become the fastest player in Premier League history to reach 50 goals, beating Andrew Cole’s previous record of 65 games.

Haaland opened the scoring in the 27th minute of City’s Premier League game against Liverpool on Saturday to hit the milestone in his 48th game, scoring left-footed after an assist from Nathan Aké.

In 20 appearances in all competitions this season, it was Haaland’s 18th goal.

The 23-year-old leads a star-studded group of strikers in terms of fastest reaching 50, with Alan Shearer (66), Ruud van Nistelrooy (68), Fernando Torres, and Mohamed Salah (72) trailing behind.

Given his skill in front of goal, Haaland had appeared likely to attain this objective for some time. His first-ever Premier League goal of 36 goals set a record for a single season.

After leaving Borussia Dortmund for City in 2022, the Norway international made an immediate impact and became a vital member of the team that won the FA Cup, the Premier League, and the Champions League the previous season to complete the historic treble.

Haaland will now be chasing down Shearer in getting to 100 goals. The Premier League all-time top scorer took 124 games to reach his century.
