The Chief Executive Officer and founder, Standard Life Microfinance -Nigeria and Chairman, Prudent Choice Micro Insurance of Nigeria, Mr. Osazee Oyegue, yesterday, called on Nigerians to unite against poverty and hunger through promoting and encouraging Small and Medium Enterprises in the country.

He made the call in Benin City while receiving an award being bestowed on him by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council.

Truth Live News reports that Osazee Oyegue was conferred with the award of NUJ Outstanding Man of the Year in recognition of his contributions to societal development and capacity to upgrade lives of the downtrodden.

Mr. Oyegue said Nigerians are going through a lot of hardship and that concerted effort from both the governments and the well meaning Nigerians are needed to end hunger in the country.

“Our celebrations today must not overshadow the plights of many facing the brunt of economic crises.

” It is a time to unite our voices and urge the government and relevant authorities to act swiftly, extending a helping hand to the hungry and underserved.

“As Journalists, your role in advocating for the vulnerable is unparraled and we count on your continued support in amplifying this urgent call”, Oyegue said.

He lamented that Nigeria, endowed with an abundance of resources, indeed deserves prosperity for its citizens, yet, the stark reality is that, many grapple with poverty.

Oyegue added that Standard Life Organization recognizes this incongruity and tirelessly strive to bridge this gap.

He said at the heart of their vision, lies a fervent desire to witness a society on the brink of eradicating poverty.

He said, in Edo state, among the many regions, they have served, over 500 graduates have found meaningful employment, striking a blow at the heart of unemployment and igniting a spirit of enterprise among the youths.

Commending the press for their roles in the society, he said they stand as the cornerstone of our democracy, upholding transparency and accountability in governance.

He said the media bridge the gap between the government and the governed, ensuring that information flows freely and accurately.

He said in the realm of microfinance activities like his, the press becomes a vital ally.

He commended the NUJ for honouring him adding that the award will spur him to do more for humanity.

He said that he never thought that the little he was doing for the society was seen and appreciated.
