In a collective effort to address the pressing issue of substance abuse, concerned minds in Edo state have advised the youth to steer clear of engaging in the consumption of hard drugs.
These advocates, recognizing the impact of peer influence on behavior, preached the importance of promoting an environment that discourages drug abuse among teens and adults.
According to those interviewed, imparting awareness about the detrimental effects of drug abuse is crucial for guiding the youth towards a healthy and stable life, thereby reducing the risk of mental disorders.
Notably, the interviewees stressed that drugs can impair judgment, leading individuals to undertake perilous and life-threatening actions they would otherwise avoid.
Beyond the immediate health risks, both legal and illegal, associated with drug use, there was a cautionary note on the dangers of combining different substances, including alcohol. The stress this places on the body was highlighted, with a reminder that frequent mixing of drugs could result in severe health issues.
One respondent emphasized the variable impact of drugs based on usage frequency, stating that prolonged use could alter an individual’s response to a substance. Moreover, due to the lack of control over illegal drugs, users face uncertainty regarding the quality and potency of the substances they consume, as these factors can vary significantly each time.
As Edo indigenes extend their advice, the message is clear: avoiding substance abuse is not just about personal health but also about making informed choices that safeguard the well-being of the entire community.
